While browsing through Google, I found a knife making experience on Deep Experience (deepexp.com) an d booked one for myself, my father, and my brother. When we arrived to the knife store, we were warmly greeted by our translator, Juraj. Juraj kindly introduced us to the knife master, Mr. Wada. We were first given a brief introduction to the history of Sakai knives at the Sakai Traditional Cra fts Museum. Mr. Wada explained the knifemaking process and the different uses of various types of knives. We then returned to the store where we sharpened our very own knives under the guidance of Mr. Wada and an older gentleman who has over 60 years of experience. We concluded with Mr. Wada heating up the blades and teaching us how to attach the handle of the knives. After the activity was over, Mr. Wada served us refreshing tea and wrapped our knives, even including a care manual to take care of t hem. The staff was so thoughtful as to even call us a taxi to return to our cruise ship. Overall, this experience was truly remarkable and one of a kind. The craftsmen are very skilled and patient, and Juraj was very polite and friendly. My family and I had a lot of fun and were extremely impressed by the hosts' hospitality and knowledge. We now have three knives that we will cherish (we even got our names engraved on the knives) and hop efully get to use in the kitchen soon. Definitely will visit again if we ever go back to Japan.
